Adult Education
by John Adamovich

As your Assistant Lay Chairperson, I am now officially responsible for the administration of Adult Education in our parish. Although immediate responsibility falls on my shoulders, it will only work with your suggestions and feedback.

The cornerstone of Adult Education at St. Luke's is Sunday Bible Study, and the midweek Bible Study which will begin again on Sept.13 The Sunday class is an opportunity for adults to be exposed to Scripture verses, and then to state their individual understanding or life experiences in relation to it. Before taking on the class, Father Andrew and I agreed that the approach for me would be to facilitate discussion. Controversial or misunderstood subjects have and will require Father Andrew or Father Deacon Andrew's assistance to get a historical or Orthodox response. The most interesting classes are the ones where there is not consensus, yet no one's beliefs are ever criticized. The topic of the midweek Bible study will be a study of the Bible through the Divine Liturgy.

I hope we will be able to make two visits per year to neighboring parishes, which Father Andrew is encouraging us to do as a group function. Father Andrew will give me additional information as to an appropriate date and news will follow in our Sunday bulletins.

Please feel free to give me suggestions and feedback for Adult Education. I have only enthusiasm for this ministry, but not much in the way of knowledge. As a family, we should learn from each other and set a positive example for catechumens, young adults and children.
