Friday July 29th, 2005 - Prayer of the Week on Matt. 8:38-9:1
Let us pray to the Lord. Lord have mercy
O Lord You are the way, the truth and the light and no one can come to
the Father except through You. Guide us in the truth so we can be an example of Your truth
in the way we live. Protect us from becoming demonic by saying that we believe in You and
living a sinful, immoral and degenerate life. Help us so that our works match our belief,
for you said that You will know us by what we do. We pray in the in the name of the Father,
Son and Holy Spirit Amen.
Bible Text - When He had come to the other side, to the country of the
Gergesenes, there met Him two demon-possessed men, coming out of the tombs, exceedingly
fierce, so that no one could pass that way. And suddenly they cried out, saying, What
have we to do with You, Jesus, You Son of God? Have You come here to torment us before
the time? Matt 8: 28
Bible Question - Does the statement of belief in the Son of God by the
demons have any effect on what it means to you to believe in Jesus Christ?
Saturday July 16th, 2005 - Prayer of the Week on Matt. 6: 22-33
Let us pray to the Lord. Lord have mercy
O Lord You tell us not to worry over our daily needs. You promise that
You will care for us as You care for all of nature. You tell us we must seek first the
Kingdom of Heaven and all else will be given to us. You have given us Holy Baptism and the
gift of the Holy Spirit. We pray the we can put aside all earthly cares for we are members
of Your Kingdom. Help us to bring this reality to our lives so that being filled with the
Holy Spirit we can live a worry free life. We pray in the name of the Father, Son and Holy
Spirit Amen.
Bible Text. Therefore do not worry, saying, What shall we eat? or What
shall we drink? or What shall we wear? For after all these things the Gentiles seek. For
your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. But seek first the kingdom of
God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.
Bible Question. How can we escape worrying about such things as food
and clothes? What does it mean to seek first God's kingdom and righteousness. How might
this affect our lives in practical ways?
Wednesday July 13th, 2005 - Prayer of the Week for Independence day.
Let us pray to the Lord. Lord have mercy
O Lord You are the source of all human power. You watch over human
institutions and guide them when they call upon You. We pray on this day for our country
for it was founded upon principles which You revealed through the Holy Prophets and
Saints. The principle that all people were created equal with certain inalienable rights.
We are concerned that our nation is drifting away from these principles into Godlessness.
Grant that this will never happen and that we will always be a nation under You. We pray
in the name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Amen.
