Thursday April 28th, 2005 - Prayer of the Week for Palm Sunday John 12:1 - 26.
Let us pray to the Lord. Lord have mercy
O Lord our God, Who sit upon the cherubim, You have reaffirmed Your
power by sending Your Only-begotten Son, our Lord Jesus Christ, to save the world through
His Cross, Burial, and Resurrection. When He came into Jerusalem to suffer His voluntary
Passion, the people that sat in darkness and in the shadow of death took boughs of trees
and branches of palms as signs of victory, thus foretelling His Resurrection. O Master,
keep and preserve us who, in imitation of them, carry palms and branches in our hands on
this eve of the Feast. As we join the crowds and the children who sang "Hosanna" to You,
may we, with hymns and spiritual songs, attain the life-giving Resurrection on the third
day.
Bible text: The hour has come that the Son of Man should be glorified.
Most assuredly, I say to you, unless a grain of wheat falls into the ground and dies, it
remains alone; but if it dies, it produces much grain. He who loves his life will lose it,
and he who hates his life in this world will keep it for eternal life. If anyone serves
Me, let him follow Me; and where I am, there My servant will be also. If anyone serves Me,
him My Father will honor. John 12: 23 -26
Bible question - How do Christ's statements about his mission clash
with the crowd's expectations.
Friday April 15th, 2005 - Prayer of the Week on Mark 9:17 -21.
Let us pray to the Lord. Lord have mercy
We believe in You. Help our unbelief. We only turn to You when we have
exhausted all else. You want us to place our difficulties and problems in Your hands As
we proceed through this Lenten season guide us into fasting so our prayer will be
effective in overcoming all evil spirits. As You cast out the deaf and dumb demon and
cured the suffering boy so cast out from us any evil which may have taken residence in
us. We pray in the name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit Amen
Bible text: When Jesus saw that the people came running together,
He rebuked the unclean spirit, saying to it, Deaf and dumb spirit, I command you, come
out of him and enter him no more! Then the spirit cried out, convulsed him greatly, and
came out of him. His disciples asked Him privately, Why could we not cast it out? So He
said to them, This kind can come out by nothing but prayer and fasting.
Bible question - How has fasting effected your prayer life? Explain.
