Property Team Annual Report January 2016

Team Leader - Mike Bauml

It is time for me to take a break from being the property team leader and being on the parish council. During my terms I have been blessed and privileged to work with so many talented and good people. I thank them all and the parish in general for all their help and the trust that they placed in me.

Once again, I would also like to thank those who come out for the work days that we have from time to time. Your efforts allow us to not pay someone to do these jobs for us. Our next cleanup day will be in the spring to get the building and grounds prepared for Pascha. Please take the time this year to help. It can be a very rewarding experience.

This has been a frustrating time for the property team. While we did routine maintenance, there are many necessary upgrades that have been put on hold since we have been unable to move forward with the building expansion. The parking lot needs to be repaired, resurfaced, and restriped. There are common areas of the church that need repainting, the church itself is in need of new carpeting, and we need new doors installed on the old basement and the sacristy. There are more projects that are needed as well but none of them make sense to go ahead with if we will be doing construction. While the forest preserve has offered a possible solution to the parking lot issue, the financial conditions that they added to their proposal do not seem acceptable at this time. We are still looking at some options, but once again the building project is in limbo. If we are unable to get a resolution of this deadlock, we will have to decide on a course of action. Do we accept the terms of the forest preserve and move ahead with the building addition? Do we attempt to do a modified building project correcting the building code violations with some minor upgrades? Do we go in another direction and begin looking at alternative properties? This is what we may soon need to consider.

HALL USAGE: The fellowship hall is available for use by parish members for different functions. It can be reserved by contacting our next property leader and is subject to certain rules and feast days and the approval of Father Paul. Donations for the use are appropriate and are at the discretion of the individual. These funds go back into the property fund and allow us to further improve the property.

Team Projects Completed:
Installation of Last Supper Mural

Future Team Projects:
The following list of projects are under consideration and if and when they get done will depend in large part on the availability of funds. If you have expertise and can help with any of these or if one of them is something you can contribute funds to, please let us know.

At the time of the writing of this report we are in the process of redoing the light fixtures on the front of the building and installing two pole lights next to the entrance of the building. This is provide safety in the form of better lighting on the stairs, better security by providing a better lit environment, and increased appearance. Additionally while in the process of redoing the fixtures in the church proper, it was determined that there is some problems with the wiring. We are currently looking into this and will correct this and install new fixtures with LED bulbs for better and cheaper lighting of the church.

1. Remodel of the fellowship hall. Finishing decorative touches will be determined and completed.
2. Exterior lighting – the two light next to the front doors are to be changed to a different style that will illuminate the stairs properly and the remaining lights on the front of the building will be changed to match.
3. Updating our security system.
4. Continue plans for expansion of church into courtyard.
5. The air and heating units for the new addition may need to be replaced soon and we should remain aware of this.
