Property Team Annual Report January 2011

Team Leader - Mike Bauml

I would like to thank all you helped out the property team in the past year. Special thanks go out to Dennis Dandeles, who has been my go to guy. Whatever is needed Dennis steps in and takes care of it. Also special thanks go out to George Evangelopoulos who has been indispensible with his advice and aid in securing contractors and monitoring them re-guarding various projects.

I would also like to thank those you come out for the work days that we have from time to time. Their efforts allow us to not have to pay someone to do these jobs for us. Our next cleanup day will be in the spring to get the building and grounds prepared for Pascha. Please take the time this year to help. It can be a very rewarding experience.

HALL USAGE: The fellowship hall is available for use by parish members for different functions. It can be reserved by contacting Mike Bauml and is subject to certain rules and feast days and the approval of Father Andrew. Donations for the use are appropriate and are at the discretion of the individual. These funds go back into the property fund and allow us to further improve the property.

FINANCIAL STATUS: Once again the parish has voted to allow the funds for the prepayment for the church bonds to be made available for use to complete various projects. This allows us to continue to move forward in maintaining and improving the building and grounds.

TEAM PROJECTS COMPLETED

1. The classrooms were painted and murals for the walls were done. Also new furniture was purchased for some of the classrooms using the property budget.
2. New sump pump installed in the new fellowship hall.
3. New dishwasher was installed in the kitchen.
4. New extra deep sink installed in the kitchen to help with cleaning of the coffee pots.
5. Stone engraving over front door.
6. Additional electric work was completed including the “Green Type” of light switches which automatically turn on when someone enters and off when the room is empty.
7. Vent for candles in the narthex was completed to help with heat build up and keeping the walls clean.

FUTURE TEAM PROJECTS:

The following list of projects are under consideration and if and when they get done will depend in large part on the availability of funds. If you have expertise and can help with any of these or if one of them is something you can contribute funds to; please let use know.

The Prayer Shire under construction on the west side of the building has been delayed due to permit problems. A permit for approximately 500.00 was obtained and we will move to completion.

1. A roll down window will be installed in kitchen window.
2. Shutters for the secretary room window.
3. Resolve the parking lot issue with the forest preserve.
4. Complete prayer shrine
5. Sidewall iconography – tablecloth
6. Landscaping – The section next to the street will have lava rock added to match the rest of the grounds. Also a couple of the bushes to the east have died for the second time due to excess water in this area. We will look for a different type of plant for this area.
7. The area around the glass doors will be tiled with ceramic tile.
8. Remodel of the fellowship hall. This includes painting, new lighting, additional cabinets, a storage room, wall trim, and a serving island with cabinets underneath.
9. Exterior lighting – this includes new lighting in the side of the building, light poles in the parking lot and addition lighting for the front stairs. This is an important issue as the lack of proper lighting in an important safety issue especially now as we make more use of the building with the homeless and the self- help groups that use the building.
10. Investigation and testing of our water supply and looking into the possibility of a new deeper well.
11. Parking lot will need to be resealed and restriped this year.
12. Courtyard renovation and potential extension of the church.

This looks to be a very busy year and exciting year St. Luke’s so please be patient with us during the construction phases and continue and if possible increase your support of the property collections. Anyone who has expertise in any of these areas or wishes to make a specific monetary contribution please contact Father Andrew or myself.

ISSUES TO BE RESOLVED:
1. Parking lot ownership: Our on going battle with the forest preserve continues. Currently George Evangelopoulos has drawn up a site and parking plan and is in the process of trying to have a significant dialogue with the powers that be.

I look forward to an exciting year at St. Luke’s and hope and pray that we can accomplish the goals that we have set forth for ourselves. With God’s help and your support I feel confident that we can.

Yours in Christ, Mike Bauml
