Name: Steve Hansen
Job: Lay Chairperson
Email: shansen@stlukeorthodox.com
Father Andrew and I joined St Luke around the same time approximately 13 years
ago. Since the very beginning, he has encouraged all parish members to get involved in the life of
the Church by donating their time, talents, and pledges. Recently, I was reading some of the
forwards in the new Orthodox Study Bible and came across the following statement: “It should also
be mentioned that it was out of the ministry and life of the apostles that the people of God, the
laity, were established in the Church. Far from being a herd of observers, the laity are vital
in the effectiveness of the Church. They are the recipients and active users of the gifts and
grace of the Spirit. Each of the laity has a role in the life and function of the Church. Each
is to supply something to the whole.” So for me, serving on the Parish Council is just a way to
donate my time and talent to Christ’s Church.
