Lay Chairperson Report - January 2012

Submitted by Steve Hansen

January, 2012

Looking back on 2011, I think we have continued to make progress toward Christ’s direction for us to feed the hungry, give drink to the thirsty, take in strangers, clothe the naked, and to visit the sick. Our PADS program continues to house and to feed those women and children who are in need on a weekly basis under the direction of Tom Kozbiel and the many volunteers who are dedicated to the success of the program. Father Andrew leads a small group who make regular visits to the Garden Center to brighten the lives of the challenged individuals who reside there. St. Luke sent 14 parishioners on mission trips to Montana and New Mexico to provide various types of aid to the Blackfeet and Navajo Indians. We continue to support Social Services by purchasing Christmas gifts for those less fortunate and we continue charitable giving monthly to various groups throughout the world who are in need. These are just a few examples of the volunteer work performed by St. Luke parishioners.

Our overall attendance continues to climb and has increased by 10 souls per week in 2011 as compared with 2010 (see attached chart, next page). The number of children attending church on a regular basis continues to amaze and can be attributed to the wonderful work of the Sunday School teachers and programs. They continue to improve the curriculum and utilize technology to enhance the learning of the students. The Property Team continues to make improvements to the church, fellowship hall, parking lot and whatever else needs attention. The parking lot is now well lighted and provides safety to the many different groups that are utilizing the church throughout the week. Remodeling of the fellowship hall has begun with new cabinets and counter tops and will continue in 2012 with improvements to the book store area.

Our financial situation is strong and is directly related to the generous pledges that all of our parishioners have prayerfully committed to the work that we are doing, in support of the ministries, and to keep St. Luke a wonderful place for all of us to worship our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. I have enjoyed serving on the Parish Council, most recently as Lay Chairperson. I encourage others to get involved with Parish Council or whatever ministry you feel moved to do. I guarantee it will enhance your relationship with Christ and His Church.
