Venturing Ministry

Director of Venturing Ministry, Sue Lisowski.

Name: Sue Lisowski
Job: Venturing Ministry Leader
Email: slisowsky@stlukeorthodox.com

Venturing Crew 2635 is a Scouting unit of the Boy Scouts of America, chartered to St. Luke since 2009. It is for teens from high school through age 21.We are a member of the Eastern Orthodox Committee on Scouting, a Pan-Orthodox group that exists to promote and support the Scouting movement within Orthodox churches. The teens form friendships and lifelong bonds that will keep them connected to the Church through the crucial high school years, and maintain ties with those who go away to college.

Scouts in our parish include the teen members of our own Venturing Crew, as well as Girl Scouts, Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts active in units in their own communities. Several of our adult parish members have served as leaders in Scouting, and many have been involved in scouting in their youth, some having achieved the ranks of Life and Eagle Scout.

Job Description

The Venturing advisor provides leadership for the Venturing crew, and facilitates Scouting activities for all church members involved in Scouting. This includes promoting the Eastern Orthodox Scouting religious award program, including the St. George, Chi Rho and Alpha Omega medals.

The advisor mentors and guides the teens through the Venturing program, which encourages teens to learn about their faith and serve in their parish. The advisor also pursues leadership and safety training through the Scout program, and helps the crew participate in scouting activities that provide opportunities for adventure, fun and fellowship.
