Sanctity Of Life Report January 2012

By Mary Jo Werbiansky

2011 Events

Giving Tree gifts to PASS were delivered.
Heather deBoer, site director for PASS in Tinley Park, spoke to our teen group. Father Andrew invited other parishes to join us. Although we did not have any visitors, a small group of our teens participated.

A tentative date was scheduled for a benefit concert for OCLife to be held at St. Constantine and Helen’s. Professional musicians affiliated with our parish planned to perform. Due to several extenuating circumstances this event was postponed. In the future we would like to explore continuing with this event.

A Mother’s Day diaper collection was held throughout the month, but with very poor participation. Due to this it will not take place in 2012.

Two large, but unrelated events take place this month. We have participated in both events annually for about 15 years. Life Chain took place on Sunday Oct 2nd. St Luke was represented by ~10 individuals who stood silently along LaGrange Road holding non-confrontational signs and praying. This event is sponsored locally by St. George Catholic Church, Tinley Park. Dozens of local churches participate. This is a national event.

The PASS Life Banquet was held the following Thursday. St. Luke was represented by 10 people including Father Andrew and visiting priest Fr. Leonid Palceski from Cape Coral Florida.

The annual Giving Tree took place. Our families placed gifts for babies and new moms under our Christmas tree. Items were delivered the first week in January. The St. Luke family is very generous at this time.

Plans for 2012

Pasha Bolen, nurse from PASS, will speak briefly to congregation and then give the teen class a presentation.
