Mission Annual Report January 2013

Michaelyn Sloan

The Mission Team has requested $10,000 from the cell tower fund to help offset costs associated with 2013 mission trips.

For the second year in a row our parish sent individuals to participate in YOCAMA (Young Orthodox Christian American Mission Adventures) programs. In May, Fr. Howard and Michaelyn Sloan went to Browning, Montana to assess and identify work projects, along with making ground transportation and housing arrangements. In July, Fr. Andrew, Ronda Samouris and Michaelyn Sloan went to Montana to work on the Blackfeet Indian Reservation and in August Fr. Andrew, Sarah Hansen, Kevin Spakowicz and Tristen Isom went to work on the Navajo Indian reservation in New Mexico. Funding for the participants came through a church dinner and the Parish Board.

In September, 11 adults and teens from our parish participated in an afternoon "packing party" for Feeding the Hungry Children at Lincolnway High school in New Lenox.

Four individuals from our parish have made application for a Summer 2013 OCMC (Orthodox Christian Mission Center) in Kodiak, Alaska.
