Internet Report Annual Meeting January 2006
During the past year the internet team was busy on several fronts. We
recently moved to a new server in an effort to save some money. This caused some problems
with different parts of the site that took some time to work out. Currently these problems
have been eliminated at everything is working properly.
We established and have been maintaining the online store. So far a
few items have been purchased including a vigil candle with prayer request and a donation
of 50 dollars form a women in Germany. We will be adding additional items to the store
in the near future.
We are now changing the corner icon on the site to reflect the current
religious holiday. Additionally we have set it up such that anyone clicking on this icon
is taken to a description of the current holiday.
The main page picture has been changed to a revolving set of two
pictures to make it more interesting. In the future additional pictures can be added.
Many new articles have been added to "The Faith" and "In the news".
Along with these, keeping the events, prayer of the week, Sunday Bulletin, Calendar,
prayer request, and other pages updated keeps our site fresh and interesting to
visitors.
Over 20 new "Hour of Orthodoxy" Radio Programs from the 1970's and
1980's have been added. These programs offer valuable instruction and an insight for us
to the history of our faith in this country.
We have been vastly improving our iconography and saints pages. This
is an ongoing project and anyone who has an icon that they wish to share can contact the
internet team and it will be photographed and placed on the web. A massive project that
is almost complete is our "Saints by the Day" pages. Anyone can chose any day of the
year and see the saints of the day along with icons and histories of the saints.
We have been trying to make our site more interactive. We have made
improvements to the chat room, established and maintain a guest book page for anyone to
sign in and comment on the site, added some religious games for the children to play, and
Father Andrew also conducts an online bible study with questions and comments being posted
on the site weekly.
Our secondary site (Easternorthodox.com) has been redone and is still
in stages of development. A new feature here is a map of the United States, which
directs you to the Orthodox directory of churches for the state that you select. This
can be very helpful for those who are traveling.
Thanks to all those who have helped with the development of the site.
As always we welcome your suggestions and input. Please feel free to talk to one of the
internet team or simply visit our guest book and leave us a note.
Yours in Christ, Mike Bauml
