Director of Christian Education Report Annual Meeting January 2017

Maria Kopulos

Presently the Church School (2015-16) consists of 45 children and 11 regular teachers. Our staff members are:
Toddlers Christine Bishoff & Alayna Jarotkiewicz
Preschool/Kindergarten/1st Suzanne Kopulos & Leah Aguilar
Grade 2 Madeline Segvich
Grade 3&4 Maria Kopulos & Adolph Galinski
Grades 5&6 Angela Tatooles & Diane Nickolaou
Grades 7&8 (Jr High) Aristea Zekios
High School Rick Wolf/ Fr. Paul

Currently (2016/17) we have 45 students enrolled, which is down from 53 in our previous (2014/15) school year. On an average Sunday we have 30 attending, same as last year with 8 less students. Note that in 2013/14 we had 66 enrolled, so our registration numbers are down.

New Teachers

We started the year with fewer teachers than we needed; as last year we had a few retire. Madeline Segvich, so graciously volunteered to teach the 2nd grade class. We are still actively looking for a few more teachers to substitute. God has also blessed us with a new Icon Education teacher, Karen Verderber. She has been working to teach the children on “North American Saints” monthly. This is very inspiring and teaches us all about the lives of Saints, especially on our own soil. Lastly, we were so amazed at the involvement of Protinica Michelle Jannakos, who jumped right in to teach the kids monthly on music. As well as coordinate a nice little Christmas Program this year. It was perfect, and the kids really enjoy singing with her monthly.

A few more teachers, or substitutes, and someone to take the Christmas Program annually.

Looking to Lent as a time for projects and thought provoking exercises for our children on all age levels. Use strategic plan to help mold us for what the future holds, more to come on that once we have some direction on what everyone would like to accomplish (goals).

I cannot forget to give praise to all these very talented teachers….they make St Luke Church School a magical place. To me I see it every Sunday, how blest we are to be able to teach these beautiful children, and the inspiration that we get from them every week. They are our future and we need to focus on keeping them in God’s graces. Thank you and May God Continue to bless us,
Maria Kopulos
