Director of Christian Education Report Annual Meeting January 2008
Maria Kopulos
Please note that this year Lana Kokayeff
retired her position of Sunday School Director half way through the year.
Maria Kopulos has stepped into this position as of August 2007.
Fall 2007-August was registration month for the Church school. Both Stea
Zekios and Maria Kopulos spent 2 Sundays registering children and collecting dues of $15.00 per
students not to exceed $30.00 per family. Teachers held a meeting to discuss classroom sizes,
teaching ideas, and education materials needed for the year as well as our focus for the year.
It was decided that we would all agree to focus on communicating more about our concerns, to also
us e-mail in order to keep the parents of the students in the loop as to what they are learning.
In October it was decided that all teachers would decide on a skit or small piece their class
could perform for the Christmas Pageant. By the time November rolled around, all classrooms were
bustling with practicing for the pageant. Stea Zekios wrote the “Nativity Icon” which was
performed by the Intermediate to junior high ages (accompanied by toddlers, Teresa Werbiansky and
Deacon Andrew!). The pre-school, Kindergarten, & first graders practiced “Away in a Manger”, and
the 2&3 graders a skit of “Sweet Baby Jesus”.
Winter 2007- December 2nd St. Nicholas made his special visit to all the
children’s classes, delivering special gifts to all the boys and girls. December 16th was the
Christmas Pageant Rehearsal. December 23rd was the Christmas Pageant, which was a
blessed and glorious production by all! We are looking forward to next year’s production!
Currently our Intermediate-high school children are assisting with PADS after they are released from
Church school on Sundays (setting up beds, blankets, and towels for them). There will be more on
this in the 2008 report.
Plans for 2008
• Plan for 2008 Lenten “day” retreat.
• Purchase new furniture for K-1st grade room, as the furniture we have is too large for
the students.
• “Beautify” our Church school wing, as it needs fresh paint, and new décor.
• Look at new teaching tools for K-1st grade classroom
• Encourage new teachers to become a part of our program!
