Charity Ministry Annual Report January 2007
By Karen Verderber
We serve God by serving others. This statement epitomizes our St. Luke
community. We are taught that even the smallest service is noticed by God and will be
rewarded. In the words of Jesus: "If, as my representative, you give even a cup of cold
water to a little child, you will surely be rewarded." Matthew 10:42.
We made the following benevolence/charitable contributions in 2006:
"OCMC 2006 Mission Appeal" [MARCH, 2006]
"Teybeh Housing for needy Christians in Israel" [YO Charity, APRIL 2006]
"Project Mexico." [JUNE, 2006]
"IOCC" [MAY, 2006/Banquet]
Popescu [JULY 2006]
PLOWS [AUGUST 2006]
IOCC/Lebanon [SEPTEMBER 2006]
Pregnancy Assistance South Suburban (PASS) [OCTOBER, 2006]
OCMC (Romanian Mission) [NOVEMBER 2006]
Special Needy Requests [DECEMBER 2006]
In addition, St. Luke’s has an ongoing food drive which services the
Evergreen Park and Lemont Food Pantry. My goal this year is to have representatives from
the Tinley Park organization called "Together We Cope," a homeless prevention agency give
a brief presentation at St. Luke’s after the liturgy and possibly have the YO group get
involved in donating some time throughout the year. My second goal this year involves a
book I read called the Christmas Jars. It has to do with "giving" and our Sunday School
children as well as any adults at St. Luke’s could get involved. Fr. Andrew and I will be
discussing this project and see if we can put it into motion this year. If you’d like to
read this book, please see me or Fr. Andrew.
Once again the annual coat drive brought in 4 dozen pieces of outerwear
donated to those in need. I’m hoping that the response will be better this year, but
am very grateful to all of you who heard the call.
God BLESS ALL for your true commitment to "servant hood."
