Adult Education Report Annual Meeting 2007
Prepared by Clark Wilson
The Orthodox School of the Seventy
As this school continues credits have been entered by my self into a
database.
A handful of parishioners have watched lectures on DVD or read books as
a part of them gaining credits in the school. There is an on-line blog that is related
to the school, which I post several items on related to the school. Spirited impromptu
discussions in the bookstore area during fellowship hour continue. One theme that keeps
reoccurring at the table is that of presenting Orthodoxy to other Christians or to cult
proselytizers.
Purpose Driven Life Report- Submitted by Ken Stevens
The St. Luke Purpose Driven Life group continues to meet and is going
into its 3rd consecutive year. It started in February, 2005. This 40-week video curriculum
is based on the best-selling book, The Purpose Driven Life, by Reverend Rick Warren. The
Purpose Driven Life Small Group Series is designed to help Christians build greater
spiritual health and balance in our lives.
We are now into the fifth volume of a six-volume curriculum. The intent
is to lead our group into a biblical understand of how God uses our spiritual gifts,
heart, abilities, personality and experiences to prepare us for ministry. Fr. Andrew
Harrison leads the discussion groups, and we meet weekly on Friday evenings in-home.
The PDL group will convene again January 19th. Consideration is being
given to a Men’s PDL group, which would start in February of 2007.
Online Chat Room
Every Sunday evening the chat room is open and has continued to meet.
During the year it has attracted one visitor who has become a regular worshipper at St.
Luke’s. I have continued electronic chats with Indian ministries and one of them has
offered OCMC (Orthodox Christian Missionary) some land to be used by the Orthodox. This
certain mission is an independent-protestant congregation, but is eager to learn more
about Orthodoxy and assist an Orthodox Christian mission. This is a really neat
opportunity and we shall pray that it will be fruitful!
Publishing as a means of Education
* The Evangelist published two more articles on the Divine Feminine and
Orthodox Christianity.
* Within an Indian Christian ministry, abroad, I had an article published on St. Thomas.
* Nativity Fast Flier-located in the library, bookstore and on line.
* The beginnings of a piece on how to read The Beauty of the Infinite has been brought to
me by Fr. Andrew. This book is a difficult theological book and with some notes will
make reading more effortless.
Goals for 2007
* Continue in-person activities such as PDL and the Bible Study.
* Proposals for a St. Luke’s Men’s Group
* Administering credits and define courses more within the school of the seventy.
* Continue the Devine Feminine series by exploring the multi faced topic of Sophia
* Possibly write sessions on how to read The Beauty of the Infinite as suggested by
Father Andrew.
