Team Projects

  • Sacristy Carpet Repair: Completed
  • Lawn Repair: The portion of the work now slated to be completed is finished. The cost was 3100.00 At last tally we had collected over this amount. We will continue to collect money towards the rest of the project and when we have collected enough we will complete it. Several individuals from the parish have given their time one day a week to keep the lawn watered.
  • Choir Room: The natural brick wall still needs to be trimmed and the wall cleaned or painted. This is pending.
  • Broken water fountain: After some discussion the team members will try and find someone to fix this problem.
  • Parking lot; This issue was discussed at our meeting and in general the response to blocking off the parking lot was negative. The general feeling was that the cure might be worse than the disease. Additional problems that were raised included the fact that the garbage service needs access to the parking lot (no one wanted to move the dumpster to the front of the lot) and the fact that our contracts with the tower companies insures them 24 hour access to the tower areas. Upon informing Father Andrew of this, he requested to speak at the next property meeting.
  • Old Basement remodel: Everything is completed except the repair of the lighting [Scot has begun work on this} and the door trim and repair [which Nick will take care of]. 8 individuals came on a Saturday and moved all of the storage items from the stairwells in to the storage area. New light plates were purchased and installed as well as new shelves and cabinets. Greg will get a new vent cover for the ductwork and will install a counter top on the south wall of the basement. Additionally Nick will install the wooden semicircle that used to be above the front door of the building on the wall. Also Greg will look into purchasing a tool chest and some addition needed tools.
  • Painting of the old building: Nick will begin to get us estimates for painting the walls of the church for next years budget.

Community Development Team Leader - Luba Johnson
absent, written report submitted

I have combined information from June and July in this report.

1. The Quad-Parish Picnic

The Quad Parish Picnic was held on June 4th at Crooked Creek Grove 2 in Palos Hills. It was attended by approximately 150 people from the four parishes. Bishop Job did comment on the attendance and hopes it will pick up next year. The food was catered from Polonia Caterers and the picnic committee agreed to order from them again next year. St. Luke received approximately $30.00 from the Liturgical collection and approximately $200 from profits from the picnic. Everyone in attendance had a great time. The date for next year's picnic is June 3, 2007.

2. Women's Ministry

No report

3. Prayer Ministry

Approximately 51 persons prayed for not including military (7 persons) and pregnancy (8 woment). Two persons got back to me with prayers answered (good news). Put more prayer cards in the candle stand and will soon have to order more "In Loving Memory" cards. Some good feed-back on the short prayer service after vespers. Hopefully more persons will attend. Respectfully, Mary Kincaid

4. Sunshine Ministry

Birthday cards and Anniversary cards continue to be sent out by Svetlana Lynch

5. Golf Outing

Spoke to Matthew Andionidis on July 17th regarding his plans for the golf outing. He indicated that the only date he will be able to do the golf outing is August 13th. Is this date acceptable? If not then the next date would have to be in September.

The Community Ministry along with the Education Leadership will sponsor the St. Luke Picnic on August 27th after Liturgy. This will also be a kick-off for Church School Registration. Catering of the food is now in the planning stages. Most likely parishioners will be asked to bring a dish for the table and the committee will provide the meats. The cost will be $5.00 for persons ages 14+. All children will be free. I have not been able to confirm that George Poulos will do the lamb roast, since he is out of town.

On a personal note, I want to thank everyone for their prayers for my surgery and recovery. I strongly feel that my recovery (which is really moving along) is due to all those that have been praying for me.

Plan for Forest Preserve Parking Dilemma

Mr. Mellis, from the Forest Preserve commission ,will return from vacation, and we will make one more attempt to elicit his help on the parking issue. Before he left, he recommended that we encourage administrative personnel involved with nature walks with the Nature Center, and on-site visits with Moraine Valley College teaching personnel and students for environmental education, etc. to come to support us/efforts for opening the Forest Preserve side parking and having it asphalted.

In order to overcome the safety issue relative to closing off our parking during the week, Father has proposed a fence or just a chain that would be inside the present entrance so that one can still drive in but we have small area for weekly parking. This would deter busses for the school district and Moraine Valley College from entering and will force them to contact the Preserve office to open the area there should not be a safety issue and we can put a sign explaining why the parking lot is closed during the week.

Men’s Support Group: Unassigned Ministry

I spoke with Deacon Andrew before he left for a California vacation, and he is willing to assume leadership of a St. Luke Men’s Study Group, starting in September 2006. This group will meet o discuss men’s specific concerns around Christian living and principles.

We will be eliciting help from Clark Wilson and make it a collaborative effort. One area too explore is Promise Keepers International or Purpose Driven life materials tailored form men.

At the next Parish council Meeting, we will have amore definitive outline of the study group goals and content.
