The Icon

A very rare Russian icon from 1700. This representation is also known as "The Holy Virgin drawing water". We see Mary at the well facing archangel Gabriel. Above is God's image in a cloud-bank. The origin of the subject can be found in the "Prot-Evangelium" of Jacob.
