St. Veronica

The Icon

Feast Day - July 12th

The Icon shows St. Veronica. On the first Good Friday, St. Veronica was the woman who stepped out of the crowd and wiped the perspiring face of Christ as he struggled to carry the Cross on the road to Calvary. The cloth she used miraculously retained an imprint of the countenance of the suffering Messiah, an incident which gave rise to the legends which surround what has been called Veronica's veil and which has been the subject of many moving tales.

Your holy martyrs, O Lord,
Through their sufferings have received their incorruptible crowns from You, our God.
For having Your strength, they laid low their adversaries,
And shattered the powerless boldness of demons.
Through their intercessions, save our souls!

Like the morning star,
Your glorious sufferings enlighten us with holy miracles.
We celebrate your memory, O Proclus and Hilary:
Pray to God for us
That He will save our souls.
