St. NicholasThe IconThe of Icon St. Nicholas is crafted in copper using the repoussage method. This is the same method which was used for the Statue of Liberty. St. Nicholas was a Fourth Century Bishop in the city of Myra which is in present day Turkey. He was know for his miracles of healing and great works of charity. He is holding the Gospel which is a symbol of his office as Bishop and giving the traditional blessing with his right hand. The position of the fingers spell out X C the abbreviation for Jesus Christ in Greek. Above the halo is the bell and tower of St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church. The Church was totally demolished when the World Trade Center collapsed. Neither the relics of St. Nicholas, which was housed in the church, or the bell was recovered. On the Icon behind the church are two of the World Trade Center buildings. Through the Prayers of St. Nicholas may He bring about the healing of the suffering, the eternal rest for the departed and the rebuilding of both the World Trade Center and St. Nicholas Church Feast Day - December 6th.
