Joachim And Anna

An icon of Joachim And Anna.

The Icon

Feast Day - September 9th.

Holy Righteous Ancestors of God, Saints Joachim and Anna St. Joachim, son of Barpathir, are shown in traditional Jewish dress of the times. Their hands are raised over their hearts as a motion to make the sign of the cross. Their two fingers and thumb form the two natures of Christ and the letter C for Jesus Christ.

Troparion in tone 1

SINCE YOU WERE RIGHTEOUS UNDER THE LAW OF GRACE, JOACHIM AND ANNA,
FOR OUR SAKE YOU GAVE BIRTH TO THE GOD-GIVEN INFANT. THE DIVINE CHURCH TODAY THEREFORE FEASTS
RADIANTLY, JOYFULLY CELEBRATING YOUR HONORABLE MEMORY AND GIVING GLORY TO GOD WHO HAS
RAISED UP A HORN OF SALVATION//
FROM THE HOUSE OF DAVID!

SHE REJOICES AND CALLS US TO SING A HYMN OF PRAISE TO CHRIST//
