Blessing Of Wall Mural
A mural of the Last Supper by Leonardo Divinci was dedicated in memory of Frank and Lillian Novak. The mural was taken from the Internet photo, adjusted and corrected with Photo Shop to fit on the wall of our fellowship hall by George Poulos. The photo was printed by Joliet Patten Company on vinyl wall paper and hung by Nick Lisowski. All have been pleased with the results. While dinning in our hall you have the feeling of the presence of Christ.
Vesperal Liturgy For The Transfiguration
The blessing of fruit and garden vegetables for the feast of the Transfiguration. At the end of the Liturgy Father Andrew gave out grapes to commemorate the feast. Historically church wine would be made after the blessing of the new crop of grapes. This event is expressed in the blessing prayer" ........May our partaking of this birth of the vine be for gladness, and for the offering of a gift to You for the cleansing of sins, through the sacred and holy Body of Your Christ......".
Garden Center Visit For August
Fr. Andrew started our visit with a story about Moses receiving from God the Ten Commandments carved on two stone tablets.
Fr. Andrew said when you go to an apple tree, you expect to see apples not carrots, which received much laughter from the residents. He also said, " A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, nor can a bad tree bear good fruit." As long as a person is living in wickedness, he will not be able to bear good fruit. So we must try and keep God's Ten Commandments.

Children's Sermon For August
Fr. Andrew began his children's sermon asking the children what examples Jesus used when he told a story. Some examples given were sheep, Shepard, door, fig tree, water. and vine.
Father then showed the children his bicycle wheel and asked if Jesus could be used this to tell a story about loving your neighbor as yourself. Father explained that the hub could be God and the tire the world and we are the spokes. God's loved for the world comes through us buy the way we help others. Any spoke that is broken weakens God's love for the world and we no longer are connected to God.
Lesser Blessing Of Water
On August 1 it is the tradition to celebrate the feast of the Wood of the Cross and bless water.
The tradition comes from a time in Constantinople when there was much sickness in August. Water was blessed with the Wood of the Holy Cross and was used for healing.
