"Many Years To Mike And Mary"
Congratulations to Mike and Mary on their 45th Wedding Anniversary. God Grant them many years!
"Lecture On Orthodoxy And Homosexuality"
Fr. Thomas Hopko lectured on the Orthodox response to Homosexuality and same sex marriage. The lecture was attended by our church school staff. Fr. Hopko's approach to a difficult subject was pastoral. He made an emphatic statement that getting to know the individual struggling with same sex attraction is far more important than condemning statements by quoting scripture.
"St. Luke Parishioners Attend Pass Banquet "
The theme for this year's banquet was" ComPASSion in Action". PASS has always had the mission to save babies from the horror of abortion and to minister to youth, supporting abstinence before marriage and faithfulness in marriage. They continue to develop ministries that support spiritually healthy families. Ministries fall into 4 domains: PREVENTION, INTERVENTION, EDUCATION, RESTORATION. Please consider financially supporting PASS or volunteering at one of their centers. Margie Doorn, Advancement Director, will speak at St Lukes in January.
"Fitness Ministry Started"
A group of runners and cyclists gather after their workout on a forest preserve trail near the church. Because of the location of the church, there are many opportunities for fitness events. It was decided to call the activities a Fitness Ministry. This will have to be approved by the parish council.
Father Andrew was among the participants in first trail ride on October 9th. If approved the new ministry will be headed by Katerina. Plans are being made for future events which may include cross country skiing.
Scene from the Life Chain on LaGrange Rd. near Orland mall, we had about 9 people from our church holding signs.
"Children's Sermon For October"
Fr. Andrew is doing a series of sermons related to the Divine Liturgy. Today he taught the children about styles of church buildings and the way they are divided into Nathex ( Vestibule), Nave, and Sanctuary. He showed them a 1/2 completed model of a Church building.
