OCL Meets At St. Lukes
The Orthodox Christians for Life OCL met at St Luke. They
are making plans for the January right to life march in Washington and other local
right to life activities. Their activities can be seen on oclife-chicago.org.
Band Warms Up For New Year's Eve Celebration
In anticipation of the upcoming New Year's Eve Celebration,
members of the St. Luke's Band have been getting together to work on their skills. If
you can try to attend this yearly event and enjoy good food and fellowship.
Pads Program Operational At St. Lukes
This is our fifth week housing the homeless at St. Luke's as part of
the PADS program.( Public Action to Deliver Shelter). Tonight we had 16 sleeping on
matresses on the basement floor. The food team from Our Lady of the Woods Catholic
church provided dinner and a carry out lunch.
The PADS program is supported by churches which house the homeless one
evening a week and other churches which cook, deliver and serve dinner and a bag lunch.
PADS was started 16 years ago in the Chicago suburbs in response to the discovery of a
homeless person who had frozen to death. The program runs from October to April.
Toy Drive
Once again the parishioners of St. Luke Parish
participated in the Department of Social Services Christmas Toy
Collection. Toys are being collected for foster children. This
program is sponsored thru the Orthodox Christian Clergy Association.

Stewardship Sunday
This Sunday parishioners submitted their promise of financial
committment to the parish for the upcoming year. This is used to make our parish budget.
We are encouraged to tithe 10% of our income as is taught in the bible. Following the
Liturgy, Father Andrew prayed over the offerings and blessed them.
National Council of Churches of Christ
Fr. Andrew attended the National Council of Churches of Christ as
a delegate from the Orthodox Church in America. Deacon Serge Kapral was also a delegate
from the OCA.
Other member Orthodox churches were: The Greek Orthodox church of
America. The Armenian Orthodox Church. The Serbian Orthodox Church. The Patriarchal
Parishes of the Russian Orthodox Church. The Syrian Orthodox Church of Antioch,
Malankara Orthodox Church, Coptic Orthodox Church.This photo was taken after the

Archbishop Vicken of the Armenian Orthodox Church was installed as
General secretary of the NCCC.
The installation ceremony was held at St. Vartan Armenian Cathedral
in New York city.
The Installation address was delivered by Fr. Andrew Jarmus, Director
of Communications of OCA in place of His Beatitude Metropolitan Herman who was Ill.
St. Lukes Holds Planning Session
Parishioners and members of the St. Luke Parish Council met with
Joe Kormos who is the parish facilitator for the midwest diocese. The meeting was to
help us plan for the future and assist in developing our vision and mission statements
for the parish.
