THE ORTHODOX CHURCH AND SOCIETY:
Introduction By Father Andrew Harrison
The Orthodox Church and Society is presented as an encyclical
from the Russian Orthodox Church. It reveals the vitality of the Church after emerging
from 70 years of persecution by the godless Communist regime. During that period all
public pronouncements were under the authority and approval of the government. This
document represents a statement from a free Orthodox Church confronting the present
global moral issues which all Christians face. The original document was published by
Department of External Church Relations of the Russian Orthodox Church Moscow 2000. The
English translation was edited by Firebird Publishers of Belleville, Michigan who
significantly edited the document for English word use, comprehension, grammar, spelling,
syntax, typographical, translation and factual errors and added a Table of Contents and
Index. We gratefully thank Firebird Publishers for granting permission to post this on our
web site. It can be searched either by the table of contents or by the index.
